Google Apps Sync for Microsoft Outlook

Posted on June 12th, 2009 in Google Calendar, Outlook 2007, Outlook XP_2003

This is a breakthrough lot’s of people have been waiting for: Google launched a plug-in that enables Outlook and Google apps to sync calendar, email and contacts. The major pity is that is only available for Google Apps Premier and Education customers.

Now businesses can run Microsoft Outlook on Google Apps instead of Microsoft Exchange, so they can achieve the cost savings, security and reliability of Google Apps while employees use the interface they prefer for email, contacts and calendar.

I found a calendar website for making appointments in a new way. People do not need any accounts and passwords, and still it is completely private. See www.ToolToMeet.com

Google Calendar offline

Posted on March 6th, 2009 in Google Calendar

Since this week it is possible to use Google calendar offline. With Gears you’ll be able to download and access your calendar from your HD. Just access your Gcal and click the offline link in the top right corner. Issues that still need to be resolved are:

  • you are not able to edit or add events
  • only events between from 1 month back and 3 in the future are downloaded
  • you can’t change your Gcal settings
  • you can’t search events

All and all a step in the right sirection and I’m sure the issues above and many others will be solved in the near future. For now Gcal offline is just a way to check your Google calendar when you are not connected. Try it out and let me know what you think.

Active Data Exchange releases new version of enterprise calendaring

Posted on February 26th, 2009 in General

Active Data Exchange, a leading provider of event calendaring solutions, is pleased to announce the release of Active Data Calendar 3.7, designed to further integrate with SharePoint 2007, other portal software, content management systems, and applications. Active Data Calendar is a web calendar that aggregates events, deadlines, and milestones into a centralized repository to allow master calendar views, or narrowly filtered calendars to provide at a glance enterprise, departmental or individual calendars of interest. With the information overload that occurs in the workplace, Active Data Calendar’s advanced filtering and configuration features a powerful tool to plan and promote dates, events, schedules, campaigns and initiatives that are important at the enterprise, regional, or unit level.

The new release of the Active Data Calendar product suite provides the ability to configure internal attributes for calendar events and event registration tracking. These configurable attributes can be used in Active Data Calendar’s out-of-the-box event publishing tools or in its extensible import and export tools. Features added to various modules of the Active Data Calendar product suite include:

  • Zip Code Proximity searching for easy search by distance options
  • Configurable internal event management fields for tracking internal event information
  • Ability to add ‘County’ to the Domestic Location Address
  • Interval scheduling to easily add appointment slots
  • Capture administration information about registrants
  • New comma separated list fields allowing for more specific internal registration filtering
  • Ability to add registrants from within the administration area
  • Ability to allow mandatory, single or optional registration for grouped events.

“We see a tremendous need to consolidate the silos of calendar information across an organization’s information systems. This version provides the ability to better aggregate information from various sources and present them in a way that is meaningful for planning, communications and alignment of key initiatives for our customers. We expect a tremendous growth opportunity for our vision of enterprise calendaring to improve workforce productivity.” said Active Data Exchange CEO, Susan Yee.

Calgoo launches ‘In-Calendar Marketing’

Posted on January 4th, 2009 in Calgoo

On their blog Calgoo writes:

We’ve just launched a new product and service called Calgoo In-Calendar Marketing™. In-Calendar Marketing is the world’s first marketing concept that allows businesses to deliver targeted, opt-in marketing messages directly into the calendars of those that subscribe to their offers.

A very interesting and promising concept! Calgoo went live with teetimes.net. Easy for customers to book tee times and great for teetimes to sell their empty slots. Calgoo is absolutely not the first who came up with this concept. In 2006 (over 2 years ago) we came up with the same concept. We called it calvertising and indeed it proved to be a very effective way of reaching customers.
