Open .pst

Via CalendarSwamp I came across this Microsoft announcement . MS will open up it’s .pst file format. If you ever dug into your system file looking for the place where Outlook stores your email, contact and calendar you must have seen this .pst file format. Only Outlook understands it so you can’t use it for exporting anything. Sometimes that can be a pain. Apparently as of Office 2010 wil open up this fileformat allowing developers to read, create, and interoperate with the data in .pst files in server and client scenarios using the programming language and platform of their choice.

Google Apps Sync for Microsoft Outlook

This is a breakthrough lot’s of people have been waiting for: Google launched a plug-in that enables Outlook and Google apps to sync calendar, email and contacts. The major pity is that is only available for Google Apps Premier and Education customers.

Now businesses can run Microsoft Outlook on Google Apps instead of Microsoft Exchange, so they can achieve the cost savings, security and reliability of Google Apps while employees use the interface they prefer for email, contacts and calendar.

Microsoft Makes Calendar Sync Work

Sarah Perez of ReadWriteWeb reviewed Outlook connector: “For anyone who uses multiple calendars, you know that one of the big issues that’s being addressed by numerous applications is getting your calendars to sync up with each other. We’ve covered some solutions to this problem before, but we had not seen a truly integrated offering that allowed you to sync up a work calendar in desktop software with an onlne calendar without need of a third-party app of some sort…that is, until yesterday. It seems that Microsoft has finally given the people what they want and have provided a calendar sync tool that actually makes all of Microsoft’s calendaring programs work together.” Read teh whole article here.
